It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns have had an extremely hard time trying to find their franchise quarterback. This is a franchise that was so desperate, they sent three-first-round picks to Houston while shelling out the first fully guaranteed contract in NFL history at a whopping $230 million. That move backfired.
Now the Browns are set to enter another season with another first-year head coach who doesn’t know what he has in the three QBs already on the roster, Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel. In other words, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Browns added yet another arm into the mix this offseason.
The latest candidate may have just jumped to the front of the line.
Recently, Alabama QB and potential first-round draft pick Ty Simpson said not only would he welcome being selected by Cleveland, it would be a “dream come true.” Simpson has strong ties to first-year Browns head coach Todd Monken, who is an old family friend of Simpson’s father.
“My dad and coach Monken go way back,” Simpson told Cleveland.com. “They talk often. He texted him when he got the job, and they’ve texted a little bit (since), so if I had the opportunity to play for the Browns, it would be a dream come true. I think I’d be in great hands with the team that they have and the organization, and then coach Monken, what he does with the quarterbacks and the offense is super quarterback-friendly, and I think he’s going to coach me hard if I’m able to go there, and I know he’s going to do it the right way. So I’m super-excited.”
The Browns have the sixth and 24th picks in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Taking Simpson sixth may be a bit high according to draft projections, but if he’s still on the board at 24, Cleveland could certainly be in play. The Browns also have the 39th pick if they need a bit more ammo to move up for a QB they may covet like Simpson.
