The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have to stress about their next TE1 anytime soon. Travis Kelce is sticking around in KC, and the dynasty window stays wide open.
For a minute this offseason, it felt like Kelce might hang it up. Retirement chatter was real, and Chiefs Kingdom was bracing for life after No. 87. But by mid-March, Kelce shut all that noise down and made it clear that he’s not done cooking just yet.
But turns out, Kelce’s got more gas in the tank than people expected, and the Chiefs are clearly planning like their TE1 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Travis Kelce Move Signals Win-Now Mode for the Chiefs

Kelce isn’t hanging it up anytime soon. He just re-upped with the Chiefs, locking himself in for the next stretch and keeping TE1 duties firmly in his hands.
After weeks of retirement chatter, Kelce shut it all down and put pen to paper. The deal kicks off with a Year 1 payday of $12M plus incentives, and it’s structured to keep him among the top earners at the position. Bottom line? KC didn’t just bring him back — they doubled down on their guy.
And it makes sense. The Chiefs are coming off a brutal 2025 campaign that spiraled into a six-game skid, finishing 6–11 and missing the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. That’s not exactly how a dynasty likes to roll.
Kelce wasn’t about to let that be his final chapter. “Of course I want to come back,” Kelce said. “Of course I don’t want to end my career not making the playoffs and not having one of the best years. It still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it.”
“Obviously, there’s still a little bit of that grit and that emotion. I f***ing hated the way that s**t ended last year. I wanna make it right. I wanna get another chance at another f***ing Super Bowl,” he added.
That’s vintage Kelce. Competitive, fired up, and still chasing rings.
Even in a ‘down year,’ the future Hall of Famer put up 76 catches, 851 yards, and 5 TDs, while stacking his 11th straight Pro Bowl nod. Not bad for a guy people thought might ride off into the sunset. Instead, Kelce’s running it back, and Chiefs Kingdom just got its biggest weapon secured for more than just a farewell tour.
