The Tennessee Titans are busy lining up head coaching candidates to replace Brian Callahan after he led them to a 4-19 record across parts of two seasons. Unlike the other four teams that have fired their head coaches since the season ended, the Titans got a head start on their research.

Now, the Titans are getting ready to speak to some of the top candidates on their wish list, and they’ve wasted no time getting started. There also appears to be a common thread tying together many of the candidates the Titans are requesting interviews with. Many of them are former offensive or defensive coordinators who have won a Super Bowl.

So far, the Titans have requested interviews with:

  • Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy (2x Super Bowl champion)
  • Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo (4x Super Bowl champion)
  • Former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris (2x Super Bowl champion)
  • Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph
  • Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo
  • Former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski

Another common theme, at least with Nagy, Spagnuolo, Morris, Joseph, and Stefanski, is that those five have all been NFL head coaches. While the Titans may not know exactly who they’re looking for quite yet, they clearly are prioritizing those with experience performing at the highest level in football.

This isn’t a bad list to start with after their track record with Callahan. Of course, Tennessee’s list of potential coaching candidates is sure to grow over the next few days and weeks. We’ll see if they can find the right one this time after deciding Mike Vrabel wasn’t the right one for the job two years ago.
