The Tennessee Titans appear to be getting closer to naming a head coach. They’ve interviewed seven candidates in total. Now, they’re scheduling a second round of interviews with their favorite candidates.
In fact, the Titans have already met twice with one of their preferred candidates, and he happens to be a former Super Bowl-winning head coach. This could mean the Titans are on the verge of making an announcement for their head coaching hire.
According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Titans met with former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy on Friday and Saturday. Though the Titans also met with McCarthy back in December, after the regular season ended.
Of course, the Titans decided to fire their former head coach, Brian Callahan, after Week 6. That gave them a head start on identifying new candidates.
McCarthy has been available since he and the Cowboys split at the end of the regular season in 2024. That gave the Titans plenty of time to evaluate whether he may be a potential fit. Though getting a chance to speak with him in person may give them the necessary confidence to make their next hire.
Then again, Monday’s news that the Buffalo Bills have fired Sean McDermott could throw a wrench into the Titans and many other teams’ plans. With the current number of NFL head coaching vacancies now back up to eight, there may be some last-minute change of plans, and that could include the Titans too.
