Now that the Green Bay Packers have been eliminated from the playoffs, the next focus honed in on the status of head coach Matt LaFleur. He’s headed into the final year of his contract. Yet, the Packers’ head coach from the past seven seasons would be in extremely high demand if he were to somehow become available.
However, now with nine NFL teams seeking a new head coach, there’s always a possibility another franchise will try trading for LaFleur. Of course, it takes two to tango, meaning the Packers would have to be open to a trade too.
Yet, with the Packers seemingly dragging their feet on reaching an extension with LaFleur, anything is possible. In fact, some NFL insiders believe a Packers trade involving LaFleur is a real possibility.
Specifically, ESPN’s Adam Schefter was speaking about that very possibility in a Wednesday radio appearance with ESPN Milwaukee. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio caught wind of Schefter’s report, which caught our eye as well.
“Appearing on ESPN Milwaukee earlier today, ESPN’s Adam Schefter characterized LaFleur’s status as “up in the air.” Schefter explained that, if an extension isn’t finalized, it’s possible that some other team will call the Packers about possibly hiring LaFleur.”

Of course, LaFleur and the Packers may simply be having trouble agreeing on compensation after back-to-back playoff appearances without a win. After making the all-in move for Micah Parsons, plus taking on Trevon Diggs’ contract, the Packers are clearly trying to get back to the promised land.
If they don’t feel like LaFleur is the right coach for the job, Green Bay could try to make a change. Though if they want one of the top candidates available, they may have to act quickly. With Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley being a top candidate in this year’s hiring cycle, Green Bay may simply decide to promote from within.
