The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard after just one season in his role as the team’s playcaller. This means starting quarterback Baker Mayfield will play for his seventh different NFL offensive coordinator in 2026.

Learning a new offense is never easy, but at least the Buccaneers have a deep cast of talent, including Mayfield, Bucky Irving, Rachaad White, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and standout rookie Emeka Egbuka. Of course, like Grizzard, there’s a chance one or some of the players mentioned above won’t remain in a Buccaneers uniform in 2026. Evans and White are already scheduled for free agency.

Still, even if Evans and White leave, this Buccaneers job will be highly coveted. After all, head coach Todd Bowles has been known to give his offensive coordinators complete control over building his staff and the scheme. That could appeal to several coaches looking for an offensive coordinator job.

One candidate who’s become extremely sought after during this hiring cycle is former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. As Fox Sports’ Greg Auman reports, McDaniel is set to interview for the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator vacancy on Friday.

Though, as noted, many teams want to hire McDaniel. He’s even interviewed for the head coaching jobs in Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, and Tennessee. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles would also like to interview McDaniel, and the Detroit Lions could also have interest in one of the top offensive minds available.
