The San Francisco 49ers have been linked to several different moves this offseason. From potentially reuniting the Bosa brothers in San Francisco, to rumors of trading or cutting franchise left tackle Trent Williams if a contract adjustment can’t be reached, or even successfully signing possible future Hall of Famer Mike Evans, there’s been a lot in flux.
But that’s not all.
The 49ers have also been long expected to move on from former second-team All-Pro receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who didn’t play a single snap with the team in 2025. Yet, for whatever reason, the 49ers haven’t cut Aiyuk, likely because they’re trying to find a trade partner for the final three years of his $120 million contract.
Yet, no team wants to trade anything of value for a player who was limited to just seven games in 2024 and hasn’t played a down since.
However, on Monday, 49ers owner Jed York completely flipped the script. Instead of brushing off the topic of Aiyuk’s expected departure, he actually re-committed to him instead.
“I don’t think it helps your trade leverage. It’s just, he’s a good football player,” York said at the NFL’s annual meeting. “We paid him. I think we’ve paid him more millions of dollars in snaps that he’s had. I would like to see him play for us.”
Meanwhile, coach Kyle Shanahan is still singing a different tune.
“Don’t have a date. Eventually it will resolve itself,” Shanahan said. “Hopefully we can get something for it. We’re in no rush. We have to do what’s right for the 49ers.”
