With a looming matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that just so happens to have former Bills head coach Doug Marrone on staff, Ryan gave us quite possibly the quote of the year:
“Doug isn’t the coach here anymore. I’m blessed to be. So of course I hope it’s miserable for him and the rest of the Jaguars.”
While not necessarily malicious, it is quite — Oh who are we kidding, stuff like this is fantastic for the NFL.
Fans complain about the excessive flags and the watered-down on-field content. Quotes like this give life to the NFL, and is one reason why reporters absolutely love coaches like Rex Ryan.
While his on-field product is far from elite, his pressers and quotes add more than enough fuel to the fire, and get people talking about an otherwise substandard product.
Never change Rex Ryan, never change.
