Kenny Britt

The New England Patriots reportedly have big plans for wide receiver Kenny Britt, who had his contract option for 2018 picked up by the team.

Obviously, the Patriots aren’t taking too much of a gamble here, as Britt’s option for 2018 will cost them less than $1.5 million against the cap. Still, it is somewhat interesting that the team reportedly expects “big things out of him” next year, given his recent history.

Britt has only put together one season as a professional that can be considered remotely close to “big things.” That one season came back in 2016 when he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams, catching 66 passes for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns.

A player who has long had great potential, Britt has failed to realize that potential since being selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. If he can produce at a high level next year for the Patriots, however, then he’ll be a steal.
