The Philadelphia Eagles have dealt with some uncertainty this offseason regarding both players and members of the coaching staff. After months of speculation about potential retirement, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has offered a definitive answer on his future.

Speaking to reporters, Fangio said that he plans to remain a defensive coordinator for at least 2 more years. After that, he’ll evaluate his options with retirement very much on the table.

“I told them you guys are stuck with me for a while,” Fangio said. “A long while…Really, it’s just something that I think you’ll always think about at the end of the year. But in the end, I didn’t come close to doing it. And I really don’t foresee myself doing it — I’m good for two years, at least.”

Fangio, who turns 68 in August, remains one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL. The Pennsylvania native was instrumental in the team’s Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and he is maximizing Philadelphia’s defense.

In 2025, the Eagles defense ranked seventh in yards per play allowed (4.9), eighth in scoring rate (35 percent), 11th in yards per drive allowed (29.4) and seventh in points per drive surrendered (1.81). That’s with Nolan Smith, Azeez Ojulari and Jalen Carter missing significant time.

With Fangio sticking around for at least two more seasons, Philadelphia won’t even have to think about succession plans for at least another year. However, given the issues the unit had prior to Fangio’s arrival, it would be wise for the organization to at least start thinking about who will be his successor.
