The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to trade A.J. Brown this summer as part of an effort to make further changes with the offense. However, if the unit falls short of expectations again, some believe Jalen Hurts could be the next to go.

An AFC executive speaking to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggests that the Eagles could move on from Hurts following the 2026 NFL season.

“Polarizing player, and as his running ability starts to decline his value will decline, too, and [Eagles general manager Howie Roseman] will always be proactive with finding solutions.”

Hurts, a second-team All-Pro in 2022 and the Super Bowl LVIII MVP, has faced increasing scrutiny in Philadelphia. Earlier this offseason, Fowler and ESPN’s Tim McManus released an in-depth story detailing the friction in the Eagles’ locker room and the issues and questions surrounding the star quarterback.

Many around the league viewed the leaks from the Eagles organization as an indirect way to send a message to Hurts. The coaching staff and front office want to see both better play and leadership from him in 2026, with a willingness to work within the designs of the offense.

Howie Roseman does seem to be providing himself with a bit of flexibility at quarterback long-term. The Eagles just used the 178th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on developmental quarterback prospect Cole Payton. The coaching staff also remains high on former 2023 sixth-round pick Tanner McKee.

If the Eagles wanted to move on from Hurts in 2027, it would come at a steep financial cost. Even a post-June 1 trade designation, which will be used to offload Brown this summer, would leave a $30.756 million dead cap hit in 2027 and a $54.478 million dead cap hit the following year.

However, the organization’s growing dissatisfaction with Hurts has become more apparent within the last year. While it’s still far from likely that Philadelphia moves on from the Super Bowl-winning quarterback a year from now, it does appear to be an option that is under consideration.
