Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is often praised for his roster-building skills, seemingly always keeping his team in contention. In recent years, we’ve seen the Eagles swoop in and add multiple impact defenders via the NFL draft.
Though they’ve built such a strong unit that now other teams are coming for what Philadelphia has built.
According to ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles have even been receiving trade calls on starting defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
“With defensive tackle Jordan Davis now extended, Philly also must weigh whether to extend Jalen Carter, who is eligible for a new deal,” Fowler wrote. “I’m told Philly has received trade calls on Carter.”
The two-time Pro Bowler is only under contract for one more season. Though the Eagles can always pick up the fifth-year option on the former No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As noted by Fowler, fellow Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis just signed a three-year, $78 million contract, worth an average of $26 million per year. Carter’s fifth-year option would set him up for a $27 million salary in 2027.
The Eagles may be getting to the point where their star defensive tackle tandem becomes too rich for their blood. Or, perhaps teams are just itching to trade for one of the team’s cornerstones, hoping they can pry away a 24-year-old who may still have more room for growth in his future.
