Another piece of potential evidence has emerged that would seem to show a New England Patriots trade for AJ Brown is just days away.

New England fans have heard the rumors and reports for months. They want the Philadelphia Eagles receiver, and it seems like they have the urgency and assets to get a deal done. However, Brown remains a part of Philly’s roster.

But, as Patriots fans are also aware, the Eagles are in a waiting game until June 1. The reason why is that moving Brown’s contract then would allow the team to break up the cap hit on some of his contract over multiple years instead of in 2026. Trading him weeks ago would have hampered their flexibility to further improve their roster in the months ahead.

Over the last few weeks, reports have emerged suggesting that a deal between the Patriots and Eagles is done. They are just waiting until Monday to send the paperwork to the NFL. Well, more evidence has emerged that New England is preparing to add what’s left on Brown’s three-year, $96 million contract.

New England Patriots clear up more cap space for AJ Brown’s incoming contract?

On Friday morning, ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss revealed that the team has agreed to a revised contract with guard Mike Onwenu. “His cap charge is reduced by $7.5 million. He gets $10 million in guarantees/bonuses. A pay cut, but security,” Reiss wrote in a post on X.

Could it all be a coincidence? Absolutely. But the timing certainly is interesting. We are just a few days away from June 1. If a trade has been agreed upon — as has been rumored — then it would make sense for the Patriots to slice off a bit more cap space for Brown’s incoming contract while keeping flexibility for future moves in the months ahead.
