Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker and 2016 second-round pick Roberto Aguayo has a new team. The Carolina Panthers announced on Wednesday that they have signed the Florida State product to the team’s practice squad.
In making the announcement, Ron Rivera had nothing but praise for the former Seminole.
“He kicked the ball very well – made all his kicks – and kicked off very well. He fit the bill,” Rivera said, via the team’s official website. “With the situation Graham had last week, we just feel we have to have a security blanket, and he was the best one we brought in.”
Panthers kicker Graham Gano is currently dealing with a knee injury and is said to be questionable heading into Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers moved on from Aguayo after what was a disastrous rookie season for the youngster. He hit on just 22-of-31 field goals and missed two extra points in the process.
Tampa originally yielded a third and fourth-round pick to move up for the kicker towards the end of the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. It remains one of the most shocking draft selections in recent NFL history. Aguayo might now get an opportunity for revenge come Sunday against his former Bucs squad.
