A new trade rumor offers the New York Giants an intriguing backfield running mate for Cam Skattebo in 2026, and it won’t cost them the No. 5 pick in next month’s NFL Draft.
Over the last few weeks, there have been rumblings that the NY Giants could use their first-round pick in April on Notre Dame star Jeremiyah Love. The Heisman Trophy finalist had a monster season in South Bend last year and created even more buzz for himself at the NFL Combine when he showcased his elite athleticism.
However, the idea of using a premium pick on a running back has surprised many Big Blue fans. The reason is that 2025 rookie Cam Skattebo developed a sizable fan base in New York with his play. Although he only suited up in eight games before suffering a season-ending injury, he showed the potential to be a starting RB in the league, and his passion for the game was contagious.
Clearly, the new regime led by John Harbaugh isn’t ready to hand the keys to the starting job to Skattebo yet if they are taking a hard look at Love. However, a new trade rumor just offered a different option to join Skattebo in the backfield next year, and it allows the team to use their selection at No. 5 to address a different need.
Should the NY Giants target Alvin Kamara trade?

“With the Saints reaching an agreement today with RB Travis Etienne, there are now questions around the league about whether RB Alvin Kamara will be moving on from New Orleans and whether the Saints would be willing to trade him. Teams are tracking and wondering about it,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 30-year-old running back is one of the best in New Orleans Saints history because of his ability to be a dangerous dual threat. However, after earning Pro Bowl honors in his first five seasons, he has had up-and-down seasons ever since. Injuries have certainly been a factor. But the Saints’ messy QB situation over the last four seasons may be the biggest reason why his receiving numbers have declined in a big way since 2022.
With only one season left on his contract, the NY Giants should consider a trade. Skattebo could serve as a pounding early down back, while Kamara would offer young QB Jaxson Dart another impact weapon in the passing game, or a change of pace option out of the backfield.
A trade for Kamara would not only benefit Dart, but it would take a lot of pressure off Skattebo and allow him to develop more organically.
