It seems that Tom Brady just can’t quit being a quarterback in the NFL, and he recently considered a return to the league. However, the idea was quickly shut down by a far higher power.

It’s hard to deny that the New England Patriots legend is among the top three best QBs of all-time, if not the greatest to ever play the position. He is a 15-time Pro Bowler. A three-time MVP. He has reached the Super Bowls 10 times with two different teams and took home the Lombardi Trophy on seven occasions.

The man who played 23 seasons in the league is first in all-time passing yards (89,214), completions (7,753), and passing touchdowns (649). Simply put, no player has done more winning in the NFL than Brady. But that level of success can be addictive.

Brady likely ruined his marriage by returning for one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022, and despite that fact, it seems the nearly 50-year-old quarterback was contemplating a comeback recently. But the idea was not well-received by officials at the NFL offices.

NFL ‘didn’t like’ Tom Brady’s comeback idea

“I actually have inquired, and [the NFL] doesn’t like that idea very much,” Brady told CNBC. “So I’m going to leave it at that… We explored a lot of different things, and I’m very happily retired. Let me just say that, too.”

Brady returning at 48 years old would be a story the league wouldn’t shy away from. They would actually welcome it. However, there was a very specific reason why the shutdown the idea of a comeback, and that is because the future Hall of Famer wanted to play while still being a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Being a player-coach has happened in different sports. However, a player-owner is an absolute no-no. Unsurprisingly, Brady is sticking with being a co-boss of a team instead of one more season of glory on the gridiron. Plus, he will get to scratch his competitive itch in the flag football league he helped form.
