The New York Giants have made some big additions to their defense this offseason, positioning the unit to take a step forward in 2026 under a new coaching staff. With the summer nearing, it appears another move could be on the horizon.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Giants are “very much in the mix” to sign defensive tackle DJ Reader following the signings of Shelby Harris and Leki Fotu.

Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora of Sports Illustrated recently reported that while there is plenty of competition for Reader’s services, the expectation as of now is that head coach John Harbaugh will lure him to New York.

New York could’ve made a run at Calais Campbell, who recently signed with the Baltimore Ravens. However, The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported that Harbaugh and the Giants coaching staff were never in on him.

Following the Dexter Lawrence trade, the Giants’ depth chart on the defensive interior is led by Fotu, Harris, and Darius Alexander. The club also used a sixth-round pick on defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis.

There’s at least a lot more depth on the defensive line than New York had a few weeks ago, but the lack of impact talent and reliance on rotational-tier players makes it an obvious weakness on the Giants’ defense. Given the playing time New York can offer Reader, it’s reasonable to think a deal could be reached if the Giants are willing to meet his contractual demands.
