Some around the NFL are keeping a close eye on the Philadelphia Eagles for a potential trade or two this offseason. After all, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been known to pull off a few moves.
While an A.J. Brown trade would certainly generate more headlines, there’s been no update on his potential availability. The Eagles want good players, and Brown certainly fits the bill.
Meanwhile, there are other Eagles players who could generate trade interest too, including backup quarterback Tanner McKee.
According to The Athletic‘s Zack Rosenblatt, trading for McKee could be costly. He believes the Eagles may not part with the 25-year-old for anything less than a third-round pick.
“I think people are underestimating how much it might cost to get McKee,” Rosenblatt wrote. “Yes, he’s unproven, but the Eagles are very high on McKee. I don’t know if they’re trading him away for anything less than a third-round pick — and even that might not be enough.”
McKee has started two games, going 1-1 in the process. He’s completed 61.4% of his passes while tossing five touchdowns and one interception with the Eagles.
McKee is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Yet, as noted, the Eagles hold him in high regard. If Hurts were to miss time with an injury, they’d be relying on McKee to fill in as a replacement capable of leading a winning effort.
With so many other moving parts on the QB carousel, including Kyler Murray‘s availability, the Eagles may have to wait a while to determine McKee’s true value. For now, it’s hard to imagine any team being willing to offer a third-round pick for a player with 88 passing attempts in his career.
