A total of 10 NFL teams will have a new head coach when the 2026 season gets underway. The Las Vegas Raiders fired their coach after doing badly enough to earn the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The New York Jets, who finished with the same 3-14 record as the Raiders, and also hired a new head coach last offseason, opted to stick by Aaron Glenn.
Meanwhile, the teams set to draft third through sixth all fired their head coaches. But again, not the Jets.
However, the Jets are still making significant changes to the coaching staff. Glenn has already fired a whopping seven defensive coaches. He’s also demoting offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand to another position on the staff, which means the Jets need a new offensive playcaller.
Yet, Glenn is reportedly aiming high. According to SNYtv’s Jets insider Connor Hughes, one name that has already been linked to the team’s offensive coordinator position is former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich.
Reich hasn’t been back in the NFL since the Panthers fired him in 2023. But he did return to the sidelines as the interim head coach of the Stanford Cardinal, where he got to work with his former QB Andrew Luck, who operates as their general manager.
Now that Stanford has hired former Washington Commanders QB coach Tavita Pritchard, Reich has a new title with the Cardinal, as their senior advisor. Though if he has the itch to return to coaching, he could be enticed to join the Jets as their offensive playcaller.
Of course, without an established franchise QB, Reich may not want to have anything to do with the Jets, but that remains to be seen.
