The Minnesota Vikings could be preparing to consider different quarterbacks this offseason. Whether it’s to compete with 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy or replace him remains to be seen. Either way, with only McCarthy and 2025 undrafted rookie Max Brosmer set to return in 2026, the Vikings will need to add a QB to the roster.
Of course, the Vikings have a better idea of whether they want a QB to supplant McCarthy or simply push him to be the best he can be. The Vikings may not even know what they want; they may just add someone as a contingency plan, just in case McCarthy doesn’t take the next step in his development.
Recently, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler appeared on SportsCenter. In doing so, he suggested Kyler Murray could be an “option” for the Vikings this offseason.
“This is certainly one to watch. He (Kyler Murray) would be one of the top quarterbacks available via trade or release if that goes down, and most around the league do expect that to go down, and he’ll be available. He’s got the high guarantees of nearly $40 million, all of that triggers by mid-March. So, they have to come to a resolution here in the coming weeks. He wants to go to a winner, that’s what he wants. So, you figure maybe Minnesota could be an option for him. We’ll see what happens.”

The former No. 1 overall pick has only made it to the playoffs once in seven seasons. With a receiving corps headlined by Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, the Vikings would presumably give Murray a solid foundation to work from.
If he meshes with head coach Kevin O’Connell, the Vikings could have something special in the works. But first, all the stars have to align in Minnesota.
