J.J. McCarthy‘s first season as the Minnesota Vikings‘ starting quarterback hasn’t gone according to plan. There have been ups and downs, but there have been far more valleys than peaks. Sunday’s 31-0 blowout win over the Washington Commanders, where McCarthy passed for a career-high three touchdowns, was a significant step in the right direction.

However, a strong finish to the season may not change the Vikings’ QB plans this offseason.

On Sunday, before the Vikings advanced to 5-8, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Minnesota added a veteran quarterback to “enhance the QB room and maybe push” McCarthy for the starting role.

Several quarterbacks will be available this offseason, so coach Kevin O’Connell should have his fair share of options. Plus, QBs looking for a chance to jumpstart their careers could see the benefit of operating in coach KOC’s player-friendly offense featuring Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson.

Late last season, we saw Daniel Jones choose the Vikings over several other suitors. Which quarterback will do the same this offseason? With only McCarthy and undrafted rookie Max Brosmer under contract in Minnesota next season, the Vikings will undoubtedly want to add another arm to their QB room; it’s just a matter of time.
