Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is known almost as much for his one-liners as his innovative offensive mind.

Some will say McDaniel is a weird character. Others firmly believe he’s among the funniest people in professional sports.

We’re going to go with the latter.

In talking to media from the NFL meetings on Monday, McDaniel was asked about his thoughts on the legendary Bill Belichick no longer being with the New England Patriots. His response was elite.

“To say that I’m somber and have been mourning the loss of Bill Belichick in the AFC East would be a flat out lie and I wouldn’t lie to you,” McDaniel told reporters.

That’s just hilarious stuff right there. He’s also not wrong.

For a vast majority of his 24-year run in New England, Belichick led a Patriots team that abolutely dominated AFC East competition. That included 17 division championships and six Super Bowl titles.

Sure, New England fell on hard times during the end of Belichick’s tenure. But not having him in the AFC East for the first time since all the way back in 1999 is going to be all sort of weird.

As for Mike McDaniel and his Dolphins, they are coming off consecutive playoff appearances in his first two seasons with the team. Prior to his arrival, Miami had not made back-to-back playoff appearances since the early 2000s.
