After tearing down the roster and shedding millions in salary, the Miami Dolphins got a lot better throughout the course of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Dolphins added 13 players in the draft, but that doesn’t mean the team addressed all of their weaknesses and needs.
Shortly after the draft concluded, the Dolphins were already linked to one of the top remaining free agents.
According to the Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins have shown an interest in wide receiver Jauan Jennings since the start of free agency. Yet, there’s been no indication that the interest is mutual.
“In fact, according to a source, the Dolphins — since the start of free agency — have shown interest in 49ers free agent receiver Jauan Jennings,” Jackson wrote. “But they don’t have the money to meet his contractual wishes, and Sullivan has said Miami isn’t going to spend big in free agency after June 1.”
The former San Francisco 49ers receiver is currently on a visit with the Minnesota Vikings, and he’s expected to stay through Wednesday, too. Chances are, the Vikings will do everything they can to make sure Jennings doesn’t leave their facility without a signed contract in hand.
Once 4 p.m. ET arrives on April 29, teams will be able to sign free agents without it impacting their future compensatory pick formula. That could be what teams like the Vikings had been waiting for, but the real question may be centered around how much money Jennings is asking for.
Jennings, 28, recorded 643 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He’d likely play a much bigger role in the Dolphins’ offense than he would with the Vikings, where he’d be behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Yet, the Dolphins are expected to struggle through a rebuilding season, while the Vikings are expected to compete for a playoff spot again. That could be just what Jennings is looking for.
