While he’s been a head coach in college football at Boston College, new Miami Dolphins leader Jeff Hafley has never been a head coach in the NFL before. Until now, of course.
Since being hired 10 days ago, Hafley has been busy piecing together the rest of his first NFL coaching staff. Now, he’s added some former NFL head coaching experience into the mix for Miami’s offense.
On Thursday, ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano revealed that former Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett is joining Hafley’s coaching staff in Miami. Hackett’s new role will see him coach the Dolphins’ quarterbacks.
Hackett spent the past two seasons as a defensive analyst for the Green Bay Packers, but his prior work has focused on the offensive side of the ball. That includes two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, three seasons as the Packers’ OC, three years as the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ offensive coordinator, and two more in the same role with the Buffalo Bills.
That’s 10 seasons as an NFL offensive coordinator and another one as head coach. His presence should help Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik put together a good game plan each week. While Slowik also has previous offensive coordinator experience, it was for only two seasons with the Houston Texans from 2023 to 2024.
