After back-to-back playoff appearances, the Los Angeles Chargers have shown they’re capable of making the playoffs. How do they take the next step toward becoming an elite team? Roster improvements need to take place this offseason.

One potential solution could be to help take some pressure off Justin Herbert to make plays. Adding a speedy playmaker who can turn short passes into long gains could certainly do the trick.

Recently, ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggested the Chargers could be in play to sign the recently released Tyreek Hill. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who coached Hill for four seasons in Miami, could help recruit the electrifying playmaker to L.A.

“Reuniting with Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel makes sense, too. Hill was perfectly suited for McDaniel’s scheme. While Hill’s days of top-shelf earning power might be over, he’ll likely still get a respectable contract.”

Hill may prefer the chance to sign with the Chargers. After all, his most productive seasons came in Miami, where he had back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons. Combine the obvious good fit in coach McDaniel’s offense, plus the beautiful weather in L.A., and the Chargers could have a fit here.

Though with the 31-year-old coming off a torn ACL and knee dislocation, some teams may be hesitant to commit to the 10-year NFL pro. We’ll find out whether that group includes the Chargers soon enough, but Hill can already sign a contract right now, which gives him a head start over the other receivers whose contracts are set to expire and have to wait until March 11 to sign a new deal elsewhere.
