An update on the recent Kayvon Thibodeaux trade rumors suggests the New York Giants linebacker won’t be traded this summer.

After making Penn State’s Abdul Carter their top pick in the NFL Draft last year, there was speculation the Giants might shop fellow former first-round pick, Thibodeaux. Especially after posting half the numbers he did in 2024 when injuries again limited him. So when the team again took a linebacker with their No. 1 pick last month, Arvell Reese, it seemed like Thibodeaux’s days for the G-Men were over.

Well, maybe not. According to a new report from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, there are several reasons why the team could end up holding on to the former Oregon star. The first is the believed price. The Giants insider claims coach John Harbaugh and the front office are reportedly only interested in getting a return “better than a third-round pick.”

The other reason why Thibodeaux likely will finish out his rookie contract with the Giants is that his coach “is not interested in a rebuild. He wants to compete for a playoff spot this season,” Raanan reports. Meaning they won’t trade him unless it is really worth it. That’s why he even suggests they could actually throw a franchise tag on him next year and trade him in the offseason.

Another interesting reason why the Giants are in no rush to trade him is that “Thibodeaux has impressed the new staff this offseason and is valued significantly higher than what the rest of the league offered,” according to sources that spoke to Raanan.

While it makes long-term sense to move Thibodeaux if there is solid value for him around the league, having a four-headed linebacking monster featuring Thibodeaux, Carter, Reese, and Brian Burns will definitely appeal to Harbaugh if he wants to make the playoffs this season.
