You can’t blame those in the United Kingdom for now knowing the importance of the Lombardi Trophy in American culture. But apparently, Kate Mara did blame her ex-boyfriend, a Brit, for denting the most hallowed trophy in American sports.

In an interview with Conan O’Brien, Mara, whose family owns both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, reveals that following a Giants Super Bowl win her then-boyfriend kicked the Lombardi Trophy, denting it after dropping it.

Apparently her boyfriend, who didn’t follow American football, didn’t understand the significance of a gleaming silver trophy that everyone literally handled with white gloves.

Kate, alongside her father, watched in horror as the unnamed boyfriend fumbled the trophy and instinctively kick-saved it.

Safe to say that the boy was put on Kate’s father’s persona non grata list, never to be taken off.
