While they still have four more games left to play, it’s safe to say the Kansas City Chiefs need to find a way to upgrade the roster this offseason. The Chiefs may boast the 11th-ranked scoring offense and a top-ten defense in points allowed, but as we’ve seen, it isn’t good enough.
One way the Chiefs could inject more life into their offense is by adding a running back who’s a true home-run threat, each time he touches the ball. Recently, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler attached the Chiefs’ name to two explosive running backs who are set to become free agents this offseason.
Specifically, Fowler mentioned the Jets’ Breece Hall and Jacksonville’s Travis Etienne Jr as two “explosive” running backs that may be “worth exploring” for Kansas City.
Both names have popped up in NFL trade rumors in recent years, and with neither team opting to sign them to contract extensions, it’s starting to feel like their current organizations don’t value them enough. Yet both could appeal to Kansas City as it seeks more difference-makers to help elevate the offense.
Plus, if the Chiefs do sign one of them, and they emerge as a star playmaker in Kansas City’s offense, they’ll be getting a player who’s still not even 25 years old yet in Hall’s case. Meanwhile, Etienne, a former first-round pick, is still only 26. Either one could thrive in Kansas City for years to come.
