Julius Peppers recorded a sack on Sunday night against Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins. But this was not an ordinary sack. With it, the Green Bay Packers pass rusher became the NFL’s sixth most prolific sack artist since the sack became an official stat in 1981.

Since sacks were not tracked until 1981, they are a tricky stat to compare from an historic perspective.
Many great players of previous eras suggest that their sack totals were well above that mark. So, whether Peppers is really the sixth best sack man in NFL history is up for some debate.
But either way, Peppers is a legend. That’s not up for debate. All five of the men above him on the official list are in the Hall of Fame. Peppers will certainly join them, likely five years after his career ends.
