Six NFL teams are still searching for the next head coach, and the job is getting tougher by the day for the Cleveland Browns. It doesn’t help that some of the top candidates have been hired elsewhere. Four teams have already hired their new leader.
Yet, they’ve identified several other candidates, but some of those coaches seemingly aren’t interested in leading the Browns. In fact, two candidates the Browns have interviewed have removed themselves from consideration in Cleveland in just the past three days.
The first was former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. Instead of staying alive for the Browns’ head coaching job, McDaniel’s preference was to go coach Justin Herbert as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, the latest candidate to remove his name from the Browns’ head coaching search is Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. This time, it’s likely an indication that Minter is in line to receive another head coaching job elsewhere, likely one he prefers more. The Baltimore Ravens are one team he’s been heavily linked to.
Minter had been scheduled to interview with the Browns on Thursday, but now Cleveland will have to make other plans while possibly finding out that the popular defensive coordinator is set to land another head coaching job, maybe even with a division rival.
