Washington State defensive back Jalen Thompson was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL supplemental draft, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

With this selection, the Cardinals are forfeiting a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Thompson was widely viewed as the top prospect to declare for this supplemental draft, so his selection here isn’t a big surprise.

A three-year starter at Washington State, Thompson (6-foot, 190 pounds) tallied six career interceptions while showing himself to be a strong tackler (190 tackles). Thompson was ruled ineligible to play college ball for the Cougars this coming season after testing positive for an over-the-counter drug that is banned by the NCAA.

This ban facilitated his decision to enter the supplemental draft. Now he’ll head to training camp and attempt to earn a roster spot in Arizona.
