The Indianapolis Colts are down to having zero healthy quarterbacks after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Sunday’s loss. His replacement, sixth-round rookie Riley Leonard, is dealing with a strained knee ligament suffered in Sunday’s loss, which was also his NFL debut.
Meanwhile, Anthony Richardson is still recovering from the orbital fracture he suffered in the preseason, and he won’t be ready for action on Sunday either. Brett Rypien, the only other quarterback in the organization, resides on the practice squad. Yet, the Colts are bringing in some outside help, and it’s not like they have a choice.
However, the QB the Colts are opting to bring in is very interesting. Specifically, the Colts have agreed to give 44-year-old Philip Rivers a workout. While Rivers, an eight-time Pro Bowler, is an accomplished QB with 17 seasons of NFL experience, he hasn’t played since the 2020 season.
Yet, the Colts, who started their season at 7-1, are desperate for a capable QB who may still be able to salvage their season after falling to 8-5 in Week 14. Can Rivers be the Colts’ savior? First things first, the Colts have to determine whether he’s worth signing to a contract, yet it’s not like they have any better options on hand.
