Several teams have been sniffing around the pass-rusher market this offseason, including the Indianapolis Colts. Whether it was pursuing Trey Hendrickson in free agency or others on the trade market, the Colts have considered several options.
The Colts have added a pair of edge rushers in free agency, signing Arden Key and Micheal Clemons. Yet, they could still be eyeing a more impactful starter to pair opposite of Laiatu Latu.
Recently, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski proposed some bigger trade ideas for teams around the league. When it came to the Colts, he predicted the team would trade for Pro Bowl pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard, who’s been angling for a new contract from the Vikings.
“Jonathan Greenard is the logical target. Indianapolis may not have a first-round pick, but the Colts could easily flip a third- or fourth-round selection—the Dallas Cowboys traded a fourth for Rashan Gary—and possibly quarterback Anthony Richardson to get a deal done.”
Bleacher Report on Jonathan Greenard/Colts
Minnesota has been unwilling to give Greenard a raise after he was limited to just 12 games last season, thus opening the discussion for a trade. Their reported asking price starts at a Day 2 pick, which would mean either a second or third-round selection.
Adding Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, could be the sweetener needed to get a deal done. However, it’s believed the Vikings would much prefer to keep their talented pass-rusher. Plus, the Vikings already have three quarterbacks on the roster, including a pair of developmental projects in J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer. Do they really want another?
