The Houston Texans were one of the best teams in the AFC this season, finishing with a 12-5 record in the regular season. When the playoffs arrived, the Texans had no issues dismantling the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round. Yet, when it came time for the Texans’ next opponent, Houston lost to the New England Patriots, 28-16.
Now, the Texans have to find a way to improve their roster in anticipation of an even deeper playoff run next season. To do so, they may have to make some tough decisions along the way, including possibly moving on from a four-time Pro Bowler.
Recently, the Houston Chronicle‘s Jonathan Alexander revealed his belief that the Texans likely won’t ask running back Nick Chubb to return in 2026. Chubb signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract last offseason. Yet, Chubb started just nine of his 15 appearances, compiling 506 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 122 attempts.
Alexander believes that the Texans feel like they can find better production elsewhere. That could come in the 2026 NFL Draft or possibly via free agency. The Texans could always consider trading for a running back from another team to help fill out their backfield too. Either way, don’t expect the 30-year-old Chubb to be back in a Texans uniform in 2026.
