A wild new John Harbaugh rumor may quickly end the New York Giants‘ chances of making him their next head coach.

In November, the Giants did something they always try to avoid: Firing a head coach during the season. But Brian Daboll gave management no choice. After a pair of losing seasons, he began 2025 by starting 2-8 and blowing sizable fourth-quarter leads on multiple occasions.

Now, they are deep in their search for his replacement. Since they moved on from franchise legend Tom Coughlin in 2015, the team has had six different men as head coach. The organization is hoping they can once and for all find a person who can hold on to the job for more than three years.

Well, earlier this week, the perfect option became available when the Baltimore Ravens dismissed John Harbaugh after 18 seasons with the franchise. But he is viewed as a great option for all of the head coach openings around the league because of his impressive resume.

John Harbaugh Wants Total Roster Control in Next Job?

The NY Giants position is seen by many as one of the best in the league because of the stability at the top of the organization and the prestige of the brand. However, a new report might make a Harbaugh signing unlikely.

According to NFL expert Tony Grossi, he was told by a league insider that Harbaugh is looking for a contract worth $20 million annually. Includes $10 million a year for assistants, but most importantly, the talented coach allegedly wants complete control over the roster and to pick his head of player personnel.

That last part is problematic because while the NY Giants fired Daboll, they retained general manager Joe Schoen. So Harbaugh is unlikely to get the immense control of the roster that he would want from his next team. The news is sure to disappoint G-Men fans hoping the franchise hires the Super Bowl-winning coach.
