The New York Giants brass are set to meet with former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh today, and rumors are swirling that he will likely leave the facility with the framework of a contract agreed upon.

The NY Giants’ decision to fire Brian Daboll in November after a 2-8 start was understandable. But it was also an unusual move for the franchise that does not like to make brash moves like firing a head coach in-season. However, the decision allowed the team to begin their search for a replacement early and had various veteran and first-time head coaches in mind heading into the new year.

However, last week, the perfect option to succeed Daboll emerged when the Ravens fired Harbaugh after 18 seasons overseeing the team. Since he became available, the team has reportedly made him a top priority. According to Jordan Schultz, New York’s pursuit for the coach “has been aggressive [with] phone calls, lunch, private planes, everything you could think of” to persuade Harbaugh to be their next head coach.

Furthermore, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added to the narrative that the NY Giants are working hard to win the Harbaugh sweepstakes by having “countless conversations” with the 63-year-old in recent days.

Interestingly enough, both Rapoport and Schultz suggested on Tuesday that there is a real possibility both sides could agree on the framework of a deal before he leaves their facility following today’s official meeting. However, there is one thing that could sink a potential agreement.

John Harbaugh’s Connection With NY Giants GM Will Finalize Deal

The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor claims “money won’t be an issue” in a possible deal. Furthermore, the NY Giants reportedly already have an offer worth around $20 million on the table. O’Connor claims the last thing the coach will want to check off before agreeing to a contract is to feel a connection with the team’s general manager, Joe Schoen, during Wednesday’s meeting.

“Harbaugh will need to connect with Schoen in person in their upcoming meeting, and there has to be a sense of a potential partnership like the ones Harbaugh had with [Ravens executives] Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta,” the Giants insider wrote. “Obviously, Harbaugh will need his share of personnel power. He’s earned that.”

If the coach and GM can develop quick chemistry, the NY Giants could soon land, arguably, the best head coach candidate on the market right now.
