If there’s one thing we’ve learned about NFL teams, it’s that they’re not afraid to take big swings when they feel like they’re a piece or two away from competing for a Super Bowl. In recent years, we’ve seen that the Green Bay Packers fit that mold.
Last year, it was Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst who delivered a shocking blockbuster just before the season kicked off by nabbing Micah Parsons in exchange for Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. Could the Packers target another big move before the 2026 season gets underway?
Recently, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox took the interesting scenario developing with Josh Sweat reportedly being unhappy with the Arizona Cardinals, and came up with trade destinations. Among the list of potential landing spots, were the Packers.

Knox argues that the Packers might feel especially urged to swing a deal for Sweat, considering Parsons is still recovering from last season’s ACL tear. It also doesn’t help that the Packers have a group of unproven pass-rushers behind Parsons, and adding Sweat, who recorded a career-high 12 sacks last season, could provide an immediate solution.
“The Packers traded Gary to the Cowboys early in the offseason after recording just 36 sacks as a team in 2025. No edge player other than Parsons and Gary recorded more than 2.0 sacks for Green Bay last season. Lastly, Sweat would be a terrific schematic fit for the Packers. New defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon was Sweat’s head coach in Arizona last season and coached him for two seasons before that as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator.”

While Sweat has stayed away from the Cardinals’ organized team activities (OTAs), those are purely voluntary at this point. There’s been zero indication that the Cardinals have any intentions of trading the former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion. Yet, as noted, the Packers could be an ideal fit, if this situation continues to spiral out of control.
