The Green Bay Packers are still recovering from Saturday night’s 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears. While the Packers still managed to qualify for the postseason despite playing in an increasingly challenging NFC North division, Green Bay also won two fewer games than they did the previous season. Naturally, changes are coming to Green Bay.
While many expect small changes, the Packers may be compelled to make a pretty big one. Plus, head coach Matt LaFleur’s contract has just one year left. Green Bay could simply work out another contract with its coach of the past seven years.
However, the Packers could be more intrigued with the NFL’s hottest head coaching candidate, John Harbaugh.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the possibility of Harbaugh replacing LaFleur in Green Bay is very real.
“A lot of people around the league have been wondering if the Packers decide to go in a different direction, if all of a sudden the Green Bay Packers might vault to the top of John Harbaugh’s list as the top available choice for him,” Schefter said.
Plus, former Packers team president Bob Harlan’s son, Bryan, is actually Harbaugh’s agent who negotiates his contracts. In other words, Harbaugh’s agent has strong ties to the Green Bay organization.
Not to mention, of all the coaching vacancies, the Packers are the only team that actually made the playoffs. Harbaugh could see the potential to not only maintain that success but also help them reach the next level as a former Super Bowl-winning coach himself.
