A new rumor shows that new New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh is already having a major influence on the team’s planned free agent targets this offseason.
When the offseason started, the NY Giants had several rock-solid options to replace fired head coach Brian Daboll. However, when the Baltimore Ravens made the bold decision to move on from Harbaugh after 18 memorable seasons, he became Big Blue’s top choice.
The organization was reportedly aggressive, and after some serious persuading, they were able to land the talented coach. However, it took a couple of days of contract negotiating to finalize the deal. Yet, money was not the holdup.
Instead, Harbaugh wanted things in New York set up the same way he had it in Baltimore, where he worked alongside the general manager but answered directly to ownership.
John Harbaugh record: 180-113
Eventually, the NY Giants acquiesced to the request, and Harbaugh is expected to have a lot of influence not just on the field, but on how the roster is put together. On Tuesday, SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes offered up some new insight on the impact of who the coach wants the team to target in free agency in March.
“From what I’ve been told, expect the Giants to be aggressive in targeting ex-Ravens in free agency,” Hughest wrote in a post on X. “Harbaugh wants people who know his way to carry out his message in the locker room. Tyler Linderbaum would be one I’d keep an eye on.”
The three-time Pro Bowl center is a free agent this offseason. He is sure to get a big pay in NFL free agency. However, it makes sense for the NY Giants to target him and bring them a proven leader on the offensive line. That would also be a big help for young quarterback Jaxson Dart.
