Eight NFL teams are hunting for new head coaches this offseason. While some former coaches could land new jobs in different cities, it’s inevitable that someone will get left out. But that doesn’t mean they won’t be able to find a good job elsewhere.

Plus, some former NFL head coaches were fired for a reason. Chances are, many won’t be able to simply find another job as a head coach elsewhere, not right away anyway. That’s why some coaches who are looking at likely coordinator roles may feel more inclined to consider a job outside of the NFL.

Specifically, some, like NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, are wondering if someone like former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris could pivot to a job on TV talking about football rather than coaching it.

“Raheem Morris, one of these surprising moves early in the week, fired by the Atlanta Falcons. Still has emerged, though, as a head coach candidate in a couple of places,” said Rapoport. “Interviewed with the New York Giants. That interview was in person because he’s not currently employed by a team. Also said to interview with the Tennessee Titans, among others, this week. Now, my understanding is if Raheem Morris does not end up getting a head coaching job, he could end up joining us in TV. He is a charismatic dude. He would be excellent at it.”

After all, the Falcons were not his first NFL head coaching opportunity. Morris may see the writing on the wall and realize that it may be a long time before he gets a third chance to be an NFL head coach. Of course, it’s also possible he never gets a chance for an owner to say the third time is the charm.

Morris led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 17-31 record across three seasons. More recently, he led the Falcons to a 20-25 record over three seasons.

Instead of trying to build upon those numbers elsewhere, the 49-year-old could very well determine that he’d rather live more stress-free, analyzing football on TV instead.
