The Cleveland Browns hired Todd Monken to be their new head coach back in January. It’s now May, the team has already had a few organized team activity practices, yet still, Monken has not met his best player, Myles Garrett.
Despite having a new head coach, Garrett has not made it a point to attend mandatory minicamp. Though, he typically has avoided them in the past under coach Kevin Stefanski too.

Still, as The Athletic‘s Browns insider Zac Jackson recently stated, the “door remains cracked” on Garrett being traded, and his recent contract adjustment in March makes a deal more likely.
“Garrett never attends spring practices ahead of mandatory minicamp, but it’s still notable that Garrett has not personally met with Monken. In March, the Browns and Garrett agreed to a contract modification that makes a trade of Garrett after June 1 more possible than it previously had been. It seems unlikely the Browns will trade Garrett given the way they’ve resisted it in the past and the way Garrett played last season, but the door remains cracked. Mandatory minicamp begins June 9, and it will be interesting to hear what Garrett has to say then after the Browns chose Monken over a group of candidates that included former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.”
The Athletic on Myles Garrett trade
It’s hard to believe that the Browns would move forward by trading their best player before the 2026 season even kicks off. A more likely scenario, if Garrett is even dealt at all, would involve him being moved to another team if the Browns get off to a bad start ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline.
A healthy Garrett would surely result in the Browns recovering at least one first-round pick, and likely more. Coming off a record-setting season, one might argue his trade value has never been higher, but the Browns obviously haven’t received an offer too good to refuse.
