Dolphins sign CB Alterraun Verner, place LB Koa Misi on injured reserve

Alterraun Verner

The Miami Dolphins on Tuesday added a veteran cornerback to go with a relatively young group, signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent bust Alterraun Verner. In a corresponding move, the team placed starting strong-side linebacker Koa Misi on injured reserve.

The move to place Misi on injured reserve likely means that rookie second-round pick Raekwon McMillan will take over as the starting strong-side linebacker this upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Verner comes out to South Beach after spending three unsuccessful seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 28-year-old corner started just nine games over the past two seasons. This came on the heels of him signing a four-year, $25.8 million deal with the team back in 2014. He was released back in February.

Verner joins a cornerback group in Miami that includes only one established long-time starter in Byron Maxwell. Depending on how he performs in camp, the UCLA product should see a nice amount of action for the Dolphins.
