De’Von Achane is one of the few stars on the Miami Dolphins who has survived an offensive overhaul. Achane, who is one of the NFL’s best running backs, remains the centerpiece of Miami’s offense following Jaylen Waddle‘s trade to the Denver Broncos.
However, could the 24-year-old running back be on the move for the right price? An NFL insider has revealed what it would take for the Dolphins to trade Achane.
Miami Dolphins’ trade price for De’Von Achane revealed
If an NFL team offers a first-round pick for Achane, the Dolphins’ opinion of a potential trade might waver a bit, as reported by ESPN’s Dan Graziano. Instead, the ESPN insider said the smart bet is on Miami extending its star running back at some point during the 2026 NFL offseason.
There is still time for another NFL organization to trade for Achane; however, it would likely take a first-round pick at minimum to make it happen. NFL running backs typically don’t get moved for first-round draft picks, especially when they need a big payday.
Achane is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will enter NFL free agency if he isn’t franchise tagged or extended. For Miami, it should feel incentivized to keep Achane in this scenario. It would be detrimental to the team to lose the star running back for nothing in free agency.
However, should the Dolphins focus on keeping Achane long-term instead of banking on a franchise tag or trade?
Why the Dolphins should keep Achane in the offense
It is hard to acquire running backs of Achane’s caliber in the NFL. Over the last two seasons, Achane has rushed for 2,257 yards while being a key piece in the passing game. In fact, the star running back had 67 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns during the 2025-26 NFL season.
Miami didn’t do much at the wide receiver position after trading Waddle, so Achane figures to have an even bigger role in the passing game this season. Achane can handle the workload, as proven by his 85-plus targets in each of the last two seasons.
There aren’t many running backs in the NFL who can maintain a heavy workload in the passing game while operating as the bell cow. Even with a smaller body for a workhorse running back, Achane has avoided any serious injuries, making him a smart investment moving forward.
While Achane is due for a new contract, the Dolphins should do everything in their power to keep him in Miami. If the Dolphins looked to replace him, they wouldn’t be able to find a better option.
Achane is a real offensive centerpiece, and while a first-round pick would be a good return, it wouldn’t make much sense anyway.
