When a team’s season ends, they always have a scapegoat. It didn’t take the Denver Broncos long to find theirs after being eliminated from the playoffs in a 10-7 loss after the AFC Conference Championship.
After scoring a season-low seven points, the Broncos fired longtime Sean Payton confidant and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. He’s been the Broncos’ offensive coordinator for the past three seasons. But now the Broncos have a new offensive coordinator.
On Monday, the Broncos promoted Davis Webb from offensive pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator.
Webb emerged as a popular head coaching candidate this offseason, receiving three interviews for top jobs around the NFL. The 31-year-old former NFL QB didn’t land a head coaching job, but he still secured a nice promotion and surely a decent pay increase in the process.
Webb wrapped up his playing career after the 2022 season. He immediately latched on with the Broncos in 2023 as their QB coach. In 2025, he added the passing game coordinator title to his workload. Now, he’ll be coach Payton’s right-hand man on offense.
If the Broncos’ offense can take another step forward after ranking 14th in scoring in 2025, Webb will surely be a popular head coaching candidate in next offseason’s hiring cycle. For now, the young rising star will gladly accept his new position, but another promotion could be in Webb’s near future.
