For the Denver Broncos, winning Saturday’s Divisional Round Playoff matchup against the Buffalo Bills came at a cost. Sure, the Broncos advanced to the AFC Conference Championship next weekend. But they also lost starting quarterback Bo Nix to a season-ending ankle fracture.

Now, the Broncos will be calling upon Jarrett Stidham to make the first postseason start of his NFL career. Yet, he hasn’t thrown an NFL pass in a live game since 2023.

On Sunday, less than 24 hours after Nix’s ankle injury occurred, the Broncos added another quarterback to the mix.

Specifically, the Broncos have signed QB Ben DiNucci to their practice squad. DiNucci, 29, hasn’t played a snap this season. This is the first time he’s joined a team since being cut from the Atlanta Falcons before making the final roster back in August.

However, it’s familiar territory for the former seventh-round pick, as DiNucci was a member of the Broncos’ practice squad under Sean Payton in 2023. That means he presumably still knows most of the Broncos’ offense.

With less than a week to prepare for their next opponent, that would seemingly not be enough time to bring in a new quarterback who isn’t at all familiar with coach Payton’s scheme and verbiage. However, that didn’t prevent one former All-Pro Super Bowl-winning cornerback from tossing out a star replacement for Nix.
