Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel publicly professed his love for his wife, Jen, on Wednesday amid an ongoing salacious photo scandal involving married former NFL reporter Dianna Russini.
This is almost as awkward as his one-day stint in “counseling” during the draft.
Vrabel was noticeably wearing his wedding ring when he spoke to reporters during organized team activities. That’s when he dropped this fun fact.
“I appreciate my family,” he said. “I love Jen, I love the boys [Tyler and Carter], I love my personal friends.”

“Really good. I appreciate my family. I love Jen, I love the boys. I love my personal friends.”

Timeline of the Scandal: From Arizona Resort to Private Boat Trip
The comments come weeks after Page Six published photos of Vrabel and Russini holding hands and hugging at a luxury adults-only resort in Arizona in March.
Additional images later surfaced showing the pair kissing at a New York City bar in 2020 and spending time together on other occasions, dating back several years.
Earlier this month, video footage emerged showing the New England Patriots head coach and the former league insider on a private boat trip in Tennessee in 2021, when Russini was visibly pregnant with her first child.
The guy did say he loves his personal friends.
The steady drip of new images has kept the story alive and raised fresh questions about the timeline and depth of their relationship.
Double Standard Optics: Russini Unemployed While Vrabel Chases Super Bowl
Vrabel and Jen reportedly held a “marriage summit” at their home in Utah recently. Russini, a top reporter at The Athletic, resigned after the outlet investigated her interactions with the high-profile coach.
Vrabel’s public statement appears to be part of an effort to move past the controversy as the Patriots prepare for the upcoming season. But the scandal has shown no signs of slowing down, especially with the disparity in punishments — Russini is currently unemployed while Vrabel heads into the 2026 season trying to make it to back-to-back Super Bowls.
Many observers note the optics look particularly bad for the franchise as it attempts to reestablish itself under new leadership. Also, the optics look bad for a guy who is now trying to convince everyone he loves his wife.
That last part might be slightly more important.
