This past year’s Dallas Cowboys were all over the place. Dak Prescott‘s return to the lineup helped spark the offense to rank seventh in scoring. Defensively, they were a complete mess, ranking dead-last in points allowed.
Once the season ended, the Cowboys moved on from their defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, who was once an NFL head coach. Yet, after a disappointing performance, the Cowboys felt they had no choice but to make structural changes to the staff.
Now, the Cowboys have hired a new defensive coordinator, and he’s already extremely familiar with the NFC East.
According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys have hired Christian Parker, the passing game coordinator/DBs coach from the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s just 34 years old, but is viewed as a rising star in the coaching industry, having spent the past two seasons working under Vic Fangio in Philadelphia.
Parker has been coaching in the NFL for just seven seasons after initially working with the Green Bay Packers as their defensive quality control coach. Two years later, the Denver Broncos took a chance on him as their defensive backs coach, where he first linked up with Fangio.
Yet, even after Fangio left in 2021, Parker held that same role down for two more seasons, proving his worth to a new coaching staff. Now he’ll be tasked with leading an entire defense rather than just the secondary, but the Cowboys feel he’s more than equipped for the job.
