The Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers are two of the NFL’s most legendary franchises. After all, they’re two of the four NFL franchises with four or more Super Bowl wins. Yet, by playing in different conferences, we rarely see them cross paths.
Now that it’s the offseason, the two teams could conduct some trade business.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s Nick Harris, a number of teams have called the Steelers about trading for linebacker Patrick Queen. Harris adds that the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are two teams that have called about the two-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker.
Harris adds that the Cowboys entered free agency with a number of MLB targets in mind, but that their board has been “largely wiped out” on the first day of negotiations. That’s led them to re-focus their attention elsewhere, possibly toward a trade for Queen, whom the Steelers are allegedly dangling for a mid-round draft pick.
“Cowboys have been largely wiped out at LB. Been a tough day there in Dallas, no other way to put it. I’m keeping an eye on Patrick Queen at the moment. A handful of teams have called Pittsburgh about a trade here (including the Eagles). Dallas has kept a hand in that mix for this exact scenario, but there are still some things to work through and conversations behind the scenes to be had there. Sounds like Pittsburgh is hunting down a mid-round pick.”

The Cowboys are looking to continue upgrading their defense after allowing the NFL’s most points in 2025. They’ve traded for pass-rusher Rashan Gary and signed safety Jalen Thompson, but Dallas still needs another middle linebacker with Kenneth Murray set for free agency.
Queen could be a good fit. The 26-year-old has never missed a game in his six-year career. He’s recorded 100 or more tackles in five of his six seasons of play, including last year. Queen would certainly help set the tone in Dallas, if they can pry him out of Pittsburgh.
