The NFL is a tough league filled with thousands of athletes playing a sport that requires blood, sweat, and tears. Sometimes career or life-altering injuries are also involved. We can’t help but wonder if those thoughts came into play with the retirement of a former Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals defender.

Six-year NFL veteran linebacker Logan Wilson took to Instagram to announce his retirement from the league on Wednesday. Wilson is just 29 years old.

He spent the first 5.5 seasons of his career as a member of the Bengals after becoming the 65th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. When he saw a reduced role in Cincinnati, Wilson requested a trade in 2025. The former third-round pick was traded to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick.

He played all 17 games in a season just once in his career. In 2024, Wilson missed six games with a season-ending knee injury. Once he landed with the Cowboys, he found himself playing as a backup, starting just one of his seven appearances with Dallas last season. Prior to the trade, Wilson started seven of eight of Cincinnati’s games.

Wilson ends his career with 565 tackles (19 TFL), 5.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 26 pass deflections, and 11 interceptions across 66 starts and 83 appearances. He ends his career having earned $29.6 million across six seasons.
