With regular kicker Dan Bailey out of action for a while, the Dallas Cowboys have turned to veteran Mike Nugent to handle kicking duties.

The NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the news.

Garafolo also noted that Bailey will likely not be placed on IR. So the Cowboys are at least hopeful that he can return in a matter of weeks.

Nugent’s signing became necessary when Bailey injured his groin in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers. For the remainder of that game, the kicking duties were surprisingly, and mostly successfully, handled by safety Jeff Heath.

Nugent was with the New York Giants in training camp, but he lost the battle to Aldrick Rosas. He last saw regular season action for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016.

There, he was 23-for-29 on both field goals and extra points during the season. The latter will certainly have to improve if Nugent is to have any chance at becoming a full-time kicker again.
